Helensburgh Sailing Club Runs an extensive race programe for dinghies of all classes. Racing is held almost all year round. A 2008 winter series for the stalwarts, Then Spring racing on Sundays and Wednesday evenings and Sundays through until September . An Autumn series on Sundays brings the season to a close.
Dinghy Racing is held either directly off the club or to the South East towards Helensburgh Pier where the winds are steadier and the seas can be more challenging
For 2008 we will continue our club racing to meet the needs of many sailor's who predominantly want to do Windward Leeward Courses.
Racing for dinghies is on a Wednesday evening (19.15) from late April as the light improves to the end of August when the light fails us again and on Sunday afternoons (13.40) from the beginning of April to the end of November with two races from May till Mid November. We have 4 dinghy starts for Asymmetric Handicap, Dinghy Handicap and Cat Handicap & a change from 2006 we are reintroducung a Topper Class start. A Novice start will remain to help those keen to race but still a little wary of the start line.
We continue to have a thriving dinghy racing scene, but each year the mix of boats changes. This year we anticipate ... ??? will be the dominant monohull. And for the CATs Hurricane 5.9, Dart 18, Tornado will still all be sailing
In addition we have traditional April and August regattas which usually include Travellers and Scottish Championship events.
One thing is certain ... for dinghy sailors we will continue to give excellent, value for money. For club members it works out at about 50p a race.
